Police: Man In Jaguar Passed Counterfeit $20 Bills At Stamford Stores

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Police arrested a New York man on forgery charges after finding several $20 bills in his Jaguar on Sunday, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Officers were called to the Zara clothing store in the Stamford Town Center on Sunday evening on a report that the man had passed 13 counterfeit $20 bills and bought two blazers, according to the Stamford Advocate. When police were checking the area for the man, they spotted him coming out of the H&M clothing store, where employees said he had bought items with an additional seven $20 bills, the Stamford Advocate reported.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Jephthe Roseus, told police that he had come to Stamford by train, but when officers found a set of Jaguar keys in his pocket they searched and found it parked nearby, according to the Stamford Advocate. They searched the car and found more counterfeit bills stuffed into a sneaker and a pair of pants, according to the Stamford Advocate.

He was arrested and charged with 43 counts of forgery, as well as two counts of sixth-degree larceny, according to the Stamford Advocate. He was held on a $100,000 bond, the Stamford Advocate reported.
