The 27-year-old mother awoke to discover that the baby girl was lying on a pillow wedged into a tight space between the bed and the wall in a room at the Crowne Plaza Stamford  at 2701 Summer St., police said

The baby wasn't breathing, police said. The mother screamed for help, which awoke the baby's 25-year-old father, who was asleep in the room, police said.

A resident at the hotel was performing CPR on the baby when police and EMS arrived at about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday.

EMS attempted to revive the baby. She was transported to Stamford Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The parents told officers that they were visiting Stamford from Ohio and that they were staying at the hotel overnight, police said.

The mother told officers she believed the baby must have fallen off the bed during the night and became lodged within the tight crevice, police said. When she picked up the baby, the mother saw that the baby was not breathing and she called for help, police said.

The couple's 2-year-old son was also in the room and unharmed.

The baby was taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner and an autopsy will be performed Thursday.

The Department of Children and Family Services and Child Guidance were notified and responded to the hospital to assist in the investigation.

Police said it was too early in the investigation to announced the manner of death. Officers are investigating and will have more information after they receive the results of the autopsy, Stamford police said.
