Police: Florida Fugitive Found In Norwalk Traffic Stop

NORWALK, Conn. – A Stamford man will soon be extradited to Florida after a traffic stop in Norwalk last month, according to police reports.

Police stopped a car after it ran a stop sign at the intersection of Burritt Avenue and Day Street on June 25, according to police reports. During the traffic stop officers found that one of the passengers had a small amount of crack cocaine on him, and the man was arrested and charged with drug possession.

At the time the driver, Steven Wakefield, 26, of Hoyt Street in Stamford, told police that he was his brother, police say. Investigators later identified him as Steven through his Facebook profile, according to police reports. Police then learned that he had lied about his identity because he was wanted for arrest out of Port St. Lucie, Fla., police say. Wakefield was arrested in Florida in 2011 relating to an armed robbery, according to media reports.

Wakefield was arrested at his home Thursday and charged with possession of narcotics, interfering with police, criminal impersonation, conspiracy, driving without a license, failure to obey a stop sign for the Norwalk incident. He was also charged as a fugitive from justice. He is due in court on Aug. 9.
