Officers doing active patrols in the area of South Main Street received a tip that a man had placed a bag of crack cocaine in his sock nearby, according to the police report. Officers found a man that met the witness’s description in the area and stopped him for questioning, the police report said.
Lee Best, 46, of Stratford told police that the bag spotted by the witness contained a substance made to look like crack cocaine but was not really the drug, police say. A later test confirmed that the substance was not a narcotic, according to the police report. Police said they believe the man was attempting to sell the item by passing it off as the actual drug.
The officer asked Best whether he had anything else in his possession, which Best denied. He consented to a search, and during the pat-down the officer found a small rock that later tested positive for crack-cocaine, according to the police report.
Best was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics near a school and misrepresentation of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is due in court on Aug. 16.
