Police: Cab Driver Shot In Attempted Robbery In Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. ? A cab driver reported being shot in the leg Tuesday night during an attempted robbery on Hemlock Street, according to Norwalk Police.

The 50-year-old driver walked into police headquarters around 8:30 p.m. with a grazing wound in his right calf.

The Stamford-based cabbie gave police the following account: He picked up two men at the South Norwalk train station around 8:15 p.m. and took them to 9 Hemlock St. One of them got out of the cab while the other demanded money. He told the man he didn't have any money and the gunman fired his weapon, got out of the cab and started running toward San Vincenzo Place. The shooter then turned around and fired another shot at the ground before taking off.

Paramedics were called to the police station, but the cab driver declined medical attention. The suspects were described as Hispanic. The shooter was said to be about 5-foot-5, the other about 5-foot-9. Police are checking the area for the suspects and investigating the cab for clues.
