NORWALK, Conn. – A New York man was arrested with 100 bags of heroin during a drug bust in Norwalk on Tuesday night, police said.
The Norwalk Police Special Services Division has been investigating tips that large amounts of heroin were coming into the city from New York. Investigators identified Richy Nieves, 46, of the Bronx as a possible suspect, Sgt. Frank Reda said Wednesday.
Police believe that Nieves had arranged meetings in the parking lot of ShopRite on Connecticut Avenue to distribute drugs to be sold in Norwalk, Reda said. Norwalk Police waited for him there Tuesday night and placed him under arrest when he arrived at about 10:20 p.m., according to police reports.
Nieves had 100 individually wrapped packages of heroin on him at the time of the arrest, police said. Each bag contained approximately one dose of the drug, Reda said Wednesday.
Nieves was charged with possession and sale of narcotics, plus possession and sale within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on $100,000 bond, and assigned a court date of Nov. 27.
