Police were called to the Walgreens on Heights Road at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 19 on a report of a customer attempting to use a fraudulent credit card. When they arrived they were given a description of the suspect, and quickly located him. Employees told officers that there may have been a second suspect in the area, but officers were unable to locate him.

Employees told police that the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Yasir Hassan Eltigani of Roslindale, N.Y., had attempted to buy a $450 gift card with a credit card that made the employees suspicious. They asked for his ID, which he provided, and police were called.

Eltigani told the officers that he had bought the credit card in Brooklyn from someone who embossed his name over the original owner's name. He said he was buying a Father's Day gift for his father, police said. He was placed under arrest and charged with use of a stolen credit card, illegal use of credit card, third-degree identity theft and criminal attempt at sixth-degree larceny. His bond was set at $25,000 and he was given a court date of June 29.

Officer's checked and confirmed that the number embossed on the card was not a valid account, police said. It was an account number associated with a credit union in New Mexico. They also found that a separate charge of $374.10 had been made to the account at a Walgreens in Stamford earlier in the day.

The true owner of the account was made aware of the fraudulent activity and told to follow up with her bank, police said.
