The boy asked employees for help at the Connecticut Avenue store after his father dropped him off and told him to walk around until he returned, The Hour said.
When officers eventually by phone reached the father, he said he was on his way back, The Hour said.
The father, identified as Naushad Datey, 45, of Spring Valley, said he was having car problems, was looking for a mechanic and didn't want the boy in the car if it broke down, The Hour said.
The mother picked up the boy, and Datey was charged with leaving a child unsupervised, The Hour said.
