Linda Williams-Paulin, 61, was charged with assault on a peace officer, interfering with an officer and refusing to be fingerprinted. She was held on $15,000 bond and will appear in court Sept. 12.
Firefighters responded to Williams-Paulin's Chestnut Street apartment at 3:27 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a structure fire, police said.
Fire officials could see something burning on the outdoor deck of her second-floor apartment, but she refused to let them into her apartment, according to police reports. Firefighters eventually used a ladder to access the deck and extinguish the blaze, police said.
Firefighters attempted to enter her apartment to make sure that she was all right and that there were no additional fires, police said. Williams-Paulin closed the sliding glass door to the deck on firefighters and locked it, police said. Firefighters also knocked on her door to check on her welfare but received no response, police said.
Firefighters and police tried to force the door open to check the apartment, and Williams-Paulin cursed at them and told them to leave, police said. A police officer eventually got the door open, and Williams-Paulin charged at him, punching him twice in the chest, according to police.
Williams-Paulin was taken into custody and refused to give her name or answer any questions, according to police. Officers eventually found her driver's license and were able to identify her.
