Ainsley Friedberg, 52, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. She posted $500 bond and will appear in court Thursday, Dec. 18.
Westport police and firefighters responded to the intersection of Post Road and Church Street at 1:46 a.m. Saturday on a report of an accident involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle.
When police officers and firefighters arrived, they found Friedberg's passenger vehicle wedged underneath the trailer of the truck, and the car's engine compartment engulfed in flames.
Police said Friedberg was uninjured, standing outside the car and on the side of the road. The driver of the truck was also uninjured.
Firefighters extinguished the flames.
Police said that it was determined that Friedberg was at fault for the crash, and she was taken into custody.
