Norwalk Teenager Charged In Stabbing

NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk teenager suspected of stabbing a man Monday was apprehended Wednesday in a foot pursuit at Suncrest Village, Norwalk police said.

Police used surveillance video to identify the 15-year-old suspect in the stabbing that occurred during a fight at about 3 p.m. at a Connecticut Avenue barber shop, according to a press release from Lt. Timothy Murphy, commander of the detective squad.

Police received multiple phone calls reporting the fight in progress at Zack's Barber Shop, 135 Connecticut Ave., Murphy said. Suspects fled and police found a 21-year-old victim bleeding profusely from a wound to his arm. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital.

Officers in the area, including an officer on an extra-duty traffic assignment, stopped and questioned two known gang members, Murphy said.

Police obtained an arrest warrant Wednesday for the teenager identified in the video. They also got a search warrant to look for evidence at the suspect's home. When police arrived at about 3:30 p.m., the suspect and other youths ran, Murphy said. Sgt. Marc Lepore and Detectives Louie Giannattasio and Shannon Sherry found him on the other side of the complex, and Giannattasio apprehended him after a short foot chase, police said.

The teen was charged with assault first degree, assault third degree, carrying a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, breach of peace and reckless endangerment first degree, and remanded to the custody of Mead Hall Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport.

Correction made, 3:16 p.m.
