NORWALK, Conn. — A 57-year-old registered sex offender from Norwalk was charged this week with loitering near a middle school soccer practice back in September, according to the Hour.

Police told the Hour that Joseph Wilson was spotted sitting in his car, watching the practice at Ponus Middle School on the evening of Sept. 12. An officer contacted Wilson, who said that he normally gives a boy a ride to practice, but that day he did not give the boy a ride, the Hour reported.

Wilson admitted to the officer that he did not have a lawful purpose for being at the school during the practice, according to the Hour.

The Hour reported that Wilson had been convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 1991 and released from jail in 1994.

A warrant was issued for Wilson's arrest, and he turned himself in on Thursday and was charged with loitering in or around school grounds and third-degree criminal trespassing, according to the Hour. He was held on a $5,000 bond.
