Daeshawn Richardson, 24, who raps under the name Y.G. Polo, was charged with possession of a pistol without a permit and held on $100,000 bond. He was also charged with interfering with an officer in a separate incident.

The arrest stems from an incident July 10 when members of the Special Services Street Team were patrolling the area of the Colonial Village Housing Complex.

Officers saw Richardson walking on West Cedar Street near the entrance of the housing complex, and watched him duck behind a parked car as soon as he spotted the officers, according to police reports. As they approached, he got up and fled on foot, police said.

One of the officers gave chase through the housing complex but lost sight of Richardson, police said. Another recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol on the ground near where Richardson had ducked down, according to police.

Officer Brian Barrett conducted an investigation on the firearm and applied for a search warrant. Buccal swabs of Richardson's DNA from the inside of his cheek were compared to DNA recovered from the gun. The State Forensic Lab concluded they were a match and a warrant was applied for Richardson's arrest, police said.

Richardson was taken into custody Tuesday.

Police also arrested him on second outstanding warrant stemming from an incident in January 2014. Police said that officers from the Special Services Division had stopped Richardson's car on Cedar Crest Place in reference to a narcotics investigation, and that Richardson fled on foot.
