Norwalk Police: Woman Goes Berserk, Bites Officers

NORWALK, Conn. – A 28-year-old Norwalk woman bit and kicked police officers – and spit on a Norwalk Hospital nurse – Sunday after officers tried to arrest her for causing a disturbance at the single-room occupancy boardinghouse where she lives, police said.

Rosemarie Olivo of 17 Laura St. was heard breaking dishes, banging pots and pans, and smashing windows at the rooming house Sunday, which prompted a call to police about 8:30 p.m. Another resident of the facility confronted her, and she punched him in the face, bit him and threatened him with a butter knife before running off, police said.

Officers found Olivo nearby at Lexington Avenue and Cardinal Street, but when the officers approached, she ran face first into the side of a building and then lunged at them, biting one of the officers, police said.

She was forcibly placed into a squad car and driven to Norwalk Hospital, where she kicked a officer in the groin, spit at a nurse and bit another officer before she was subdued, police Sgt. Lisa Cotto said.

Police are investigating what brought on the disturbance and whether drugs were involved.

Olivo was charged with second-degree assault and assault on a peace officer and/or emergency medical personnel, both felonies; and misdemeanor disorderly conduct and threatening. She was scheduled to appear Monday in Norwalk Superior Court, but she remained in custody at the hospital.
