Police were called to the parking lot outside Home Depot on Connecticut Avenue on reports of two men fighting at about noon Monday. Officers separated the two and called paramedics to attend to one, who had facial injuries, according to the police report.

James Bertrand, 42, of Bridgeport told police that he was backing out of a parking spot when another man began yelling at him and saying that he almost ran him over. Bertrand said the other man then came over to his window and continued arguing before hitting him in the face, according to the report.

Bertrand then got out of his car and continued arguing with the other man, the police report said. He told police that he was concerned because the other man was larger than him, so he grabbed a metal C-clamp out of his car and used it to hit him, police said.

Jorge Betancourt-Carde, 40, of Norwalk told police that the argument began when Bertrand almost hit him while backing out of his space. He admitted to shoving Bertrand before he grabbed the tool and also to punching him in self-defense, according to the police report.

Bertrand was charged with second-degree assault and breach of peace and released on $1,500 bond. Betancourt-Carde was charged with third-degree assault and a breach of the peace and released on a promise to appear in court. Both are due in court Nov. 26.
