NORWALK, Conn. -- A Stamford man was arrested after police said he stole a truck belonging to Home Depot in Norwalk and brought it back the next day.
Jose Rodriguez, 31, was charged with second-degree larceny. He was held on $5,000 bond and will appear in court June 4.
Rodriguez was arrested at the Home Depot on Connecticut Avenue early Tuesday morning, police said. Employees told police that Rodriguez had come into the store Monday saying his car was broken down and he needed a jump. An employee then gave him the keys to a Ford pickup truck that the store owned so he could use it to jump-start his car, police said. Rodriguez then took the truck, according to police reports.
A few hours later, an employee saw the truck in the parking lot with Rodriguez lying on the seat, police said. Officers arrived and took Rodriguez into custody.
He told police his car had broken down and he had asked for a jump, but when he was given the keys he decided to take the truck to run a few errands before returning it, police said.
