Police say they have an arrest warrant for Kevin Credle, 45, of the Bronx, N.Y., and will seek to have him extradited from New York, where he is currently in custody on an unrelated matter, said Lt. Thomas Mattera Detective Bureau commander.
Credle is being held in New York on parole violation charges and will face first-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny charges when he is eventually brought to Connecticut, Mattera said.
The robbery of the bank branch on Connecticut Avenue occurred at about 10 a.m. Aug. 5 when a gap-toothed, cane-holding black man believed to be in his 50s told a bank employee he had a weapon and demanded money, police said. Police said no weapon was seen. The amount of money stolen wasn't disclosed.
The suspect fled across the street to Stop & Shop and left the area in a black sedan, police said.
Mattera praised the work of Detective Daniel Fitzmaurice in solving the case.
"He did an outstanding job," he said. "Based on forensic evidence and eyewitnesses accounts he was able to put all of this together."
