Seth Emond, 53, was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on $10,000 bond and will appear in court May 13.
Officers were called to the Home Depot on Connecticut Avenue just before noon Tuesday on a report of a disturbance, police said. When they arrived, they found a loss prevention officer with Emond in a headlock, police said.
Employees told police that Emond had been seen walking around the store with a receipt in his hand. He then proceeded to fill up a shopping cart with toilet paper and paper towels and head toward the exit, waving the receipt as if he had paid for the items, according to police reports. He walked past the registers and out the door, where he was stopped by the loss prevention officer, police said.
He tried to push his way past the officer and the two started to scuffle, police said. After fighting for a little while, the officer managed to get Emond in a headlock and wait for officers to arrive, police said. The loss prevention officer did not need medical attention, and Emond was taken into custody.
