NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk residents with unwanted prescription medications can now dispose of them safely and anonymously at the Norwalk Police Department.
The department has installed a prescription drop box in the lobby of its headquarters, located at 1 Monroe St.
Residents can dispose of expired, unwanted or unused medications at any time of day or night. Accepted items include prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, narcotics and controlled substances, pet medication, vitamins and supplements, ointments and inhalers. But needles, syringes, thermometers, IV bags, bloody or infectious waste, hydrogen peroxide, and business waste will not be accepted.
The box was obtained through a grant from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators. All drug drop-offs are anonymous, and there is no cost for the service.
