Ursula Tirado, 26, was arrested Wednesday and charged with fifth-degree larceny and second-degree forgery, as well as two counts of failure to appear in court. She was held on $29,000 bond and will appear in court Nov. 14.

Previously arrested in the case were Kelly Grey, 30, of Stratford, on Oct. 2; Nicole Shipp, 25, of Meriden, on Oct. 16; Victor Brown, 54, of Hartford on Oct. 16; and Kevin Fowles, 44, of Rocky Hill on Oct. 14.

Each faces the same charges of fifth-degree larceny and second-degree forgery. Shipp was also arrested in Darien in August after police said she passed counterfeit checks in that town.

Norwalk police said the charges stem from a report back in June. The group is believed to have cashed fraudulent checks at Norwalk banks in May and June.

Police said that they cashed 17 checks, totaling $25,932.02.

The fraud unit investigated the case and traced the checks to Tirado, Grey, Shipp, Brown and Fowles, and applied for arrest warrants, according to police reports. Norwalk police took Tirado into custody at Hartford Adult Probation on Wednesday afternoon.
