NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Police arrested a suspect in a theft case more than three years old Tuesday.
In 2010 a theft was reported at the Open Door Shelter on Merritt Street. A backpack containing approximately $1,190 worth of valuables, including cash and a laptop, were reported missing after being left unattended in the shelter, according to police reports.
Staff reviewed the shelter’s video surveillance system and identified Andrew Wallace, now 27, as the man who took the bag, police said. Wallace, a homeless man, had since left the shelter and was unreachable, according to police reports.
Bridgeport Police made contact with Wallace in their city Tuesday and learned of an active warrant from Norwalk Police for his arrest. He was turned over to Norwalk officers and charged with fourth-degree larceny Tuesday. He is being held on a $5,000 bond, and is due in court on Jan. 17.
