Norwalk Police Issue 500 Tickets For Distracted Driving

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk police handed out more than 500 tickets during a recent crackdown on distracted driving.

Throughout the month of April, Norwalk police joined the statewide Distracted Driving High Visibility Enforcement operation.

Officers around the city conducted enforcement details using spotters and other investigative techniques to find and cite drivers using their cellphones and other mobile devices while driving, police said.

Police issued 585 infractions and summonses during the operation.

This included 500 citations for using or holding a cellphone, as well as five seatbelt violations, nine drivers who had a suspended license, two drug arrests and 69 other motor vehicle violations.
