Norwalk Police Investigate Suspects Arrested After Bridgeport Crash

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Four men were arrested in Bridgeport after a short car chase Wednesday in what police said is part of an ongoing investigation into violent crime in Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk.

At around 7:30 p.m. police engaged in a very brief pursuit on Beechwood Avenue that ended at the intersection of Park Avenue when the suspect vehicle hit a utility pole, according to police. Two occupants ran from the vehicle. One of them, 18-year-old Onaje Smith of Bridgeport, was apprehended by a Bridgeport Police K9 and the other, 20-year-old Jaquin Morris of West Haven, was apprehended by a Bridgeport police officer. A third suspect, 19-year-old Tyreik Gant of Stamford, remained in the vehicle, police said.

Gant, Smith and Morris were all charged with second-degree larceny and interfering with police. Their bonds were set at $50,000.

In addition, police said that a fourth suspect, 20-year-old Daniel Smith of Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with interfering with police and carrying a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $500.

Police said that this incident is a result of an ongoing criminal investigation into several violent crime incidents in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford. Bridgeport Police said that all three police agencies are cooperating in this investigation, and investigators from Stamford and Norwalk were in Bridgeport until early Thursday morning.
