The robbery took place at the Speedy Mart in Rogers Square in East Norwalk at about 7 p.m., police said, when a gunman walked into the store with a handgun drawn. The assailant pushed the store owner behind the counter and demanded money. A customer who was also inside the store ran out and called the police.

According to Norwalk Police Lt. Paul Vinett, the store owner gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, but he was also able to hit the store’s panic alarm. The gunman fled on foot, and police dogs from Norwalk and Westport helped search the area, but the assailant was not found.

The gunman was described as a black male, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie and jeans, Vinett said.

In the second incident, police said a 30-something Norwalk man was shot at near his Suncrest Road home, but the gunman missed him.

The shooting occurred a little after 8 p.m. when the victim was walking to his apartment. A man wearing a ski mask, a gray hoodie and light blue jeans fired four to five shots and ran.

“If he was being targeted, the motive is unknown at this time,” Vinett said, adding that the gray hoodies worn by both assailants appears to be a coincidence.

Norwalk police dogs were again called to the scene. But the assailant, who fired from about 40 feet away, was not found. Additionally, no bullet shell casings were found.

The mother of the man shot at called the police, Vinett said, but no other residents reported the incident, despite some of them saying they heard had gunshots.
