NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk police were on the scene investigating a double shooting on Woodward Avenue in South Norwalk early Wednesday.

Two victims with serious but non-life-threatening injuries were taken to Norwalk Hospital by ambulance just after midnight Wednesday, Sgt. Thomas Roncinske said. One victim was found in the parking lot of Klaff's at 165 Water St. He did not say where the other victim was found.

Roncinske believes a car drove by and someone in the vehicle fired on a group of people. This was reported at about 11:50 p.m.

Evidence markers were placed on Woodward Avenue between Larsen and Grove streets as police investigated at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. Roncinske and other officers were looking for evidence on the sidewalk in the area of 40-46 Woodward Ave. and on Burritt Avenue.

No further details were available at this time.

I think the NPD does a good job . But I think tax payers get mad when they hear about a shooting in there town . But I think it makes people more mad the day after the shooting I hear about a friend in his 50's driving a 80k suv for making what they called a rolling stop at a stop sign. This is what he said to me I pay 10k in tax for my house another 2k for my cars . And Im beating stopped and ticketed while their are people shooting each other in south norwalk . and I think he is right . Lets focus on the real problems before we worry about little ones

Great investigative work. Just shows how limited your knowledge is on how an investigation should be conducted

I really cannot wait to hear the rest of the story.

Tim T:

Word has it that the vehicle description was never broadcasted to all units that were on duty at the time. If this is true this is yet another of the many many failures of the NPD. How can the patrol units be on the look ourt for a vehicle if they description is not given to them? I can see why all the good cops are jumping ship as soon as they can. We need change st the NPD from the top down and a new chief from outside the old boys club of the NPD. If Moccia refuses to do the right thing for the residents of Norwalk we must look at a RECALL election of Moccia.

sononeknows:

Its been suggested the two kids shot were good decent kids, not everyone in South Norwalk is bad.If it was two good kids coming home from fireworks we can trust they are written about as such. There seems to be many more innocent victims in Norwalk nowadays.

nchapman:

I have heard that they are good kids.

sononeknows:

Another classic South Norwalk shooting. The shooting had to be called in ,response at best was poor, only after a few minutes was a crime scene even suggested.

It was by far another heavy weapon disharge, this wasn't bb guns kids it was heavy firepower. We started counting shots right after the first one we know gunfire in South Norwalk,it was obvious there was retun fire then in the end the three shots were way down the street so yes a car was involved.

What it was like is simple, all those returning to cars at Klaffs had to walk by ambulance poilce cars and a wounded victim, ambulance took way to long but seems Norwalk is only using one ambulance most nights so it was wait for the bus and a wait it was.

Seems Norwalk police can't report no ambulance for 15 minutes,no one cruiser in the area so they could of heard the shots maybe even caught the car and the fact wasn't a real bad shooting yet if you were shot in the face poasible eys waht would you consider it a fun time shooting.

maybe the outcry today should be over why Norwalk has limited ambulance response in the city to all emergencies for the past week.Maybe its time for Norwalk fire to get an ambulance work would not kill them and it would pay for equipment the fire dept doesn't have.

I'm not saying Norwlk should provide free trips to shooting victims yet those who need help who pay taxes and are not invoved in crime related trips to the ER should not have to wait for transport which has happened many times this week.

The shooting was normal, poor repsonse and limited manpower, wonder when they did open the roads up way past 3 am who paid for the overtime this morning. Its obvious Rilling left a mess only thing to be thankful for is Harry didn't get the first job and bring chaos to Rhode Island .

How much did this double shooting cost Norwalk? Anyone brought in or held over from details were making overtime folks and where it was the 4th was it double?I'm sure where money is tight in Norwalk the last department we should look at is the police they suppoerted Dick didn't they this last term.

But what do I know I'm only a taxpayer who knows what gunfire sounds like, and a shot spotter instead of the Gaurdian Angels was worth the fight a few years back with not having either now shows why Norwalk won't fight crime overtime is a big incentive for our police dept.

Klaffs has some cleaning to do after the holiday the blood soaked bandages still sit by the front door on Water street and empty and discared medical packages, police tape is still tied around poles and fences in the 3 square block area of crime scenes along Burritt Water and Woodward.

How was your fourth, ours started in gunfire where two were shot one in the face and the police will tell us not a big deal no one died.Trust losing an eye is just part of Norwalks street justice and paying to process a crime scene is police justice.

Why does it take so long for an ambulance to respond ?Who cares as long as your not waiting for one.

NrwlkCT:

Whats the point of moving the Police into South Norwalk if response times are going to be this long? Time for foot patrols.

@ Nancy Guenther Chapman,
Great photo, I really like your use of ambient lighting in the shot. Becareful out there.

nchapman:

Thank you. When I felt unsafe I went home and got my husband.

Broad River:

Well, with the cops on the other side of the river still finishing up the tail end of a pyrotechnic display gathering ( yes we should have one but I wonder how many school pencils this could have purchased ) what better time to have a drive-by-shooting.

If nothing else these thugs are culling their own herd.

Ken P Jr:

What needs doing is closing down the projects, its no accident where they things go on & no mystery why its there. Towns without houseing projects dont seem to have these issues, towns that build things that scream come here and milk us do. If certain people cant afford to live here thats too bad, raising taxes to spend more on band aids isnt the answer, cutting out the cancer is. Norwalk has alot to be proud of, SONO west of Washington ST isnt one of them. Its only a few small chuncks that give all of SONO a bad name and breed this trash.

Broad River:

Sell my home? I pay $9500 / yr. in property taxes up from about $8500 ten years ago, that's roughly $90000 over ten years.

These same ten years I haven't had a child in a Norwalk school. Two of my children had either partial or full academic scholarships in college because of the education they received here in town for 12 years.

There is no money left and taxes are outrageous because of ONE thing, the Welfare roster.
Twenty-nine years ago I mortgaged this house for about the same as I have paid in taxers over the last ten years. It's not a pretty 3 bedroom 2 bath but it's mine. I'd take a pounding by selling. If my property looked anything like what I drive past to get to the Wheels Transit Co. my home would be condemned. Either get the landlords to fix up their slum buildings or condemn them. There are blocks and blocks that could be leveled in South Norwalk and put up a couple of tall apartment buildings / co-ops with plenty of parking and playgrounds.

Charge a fair rent and be done with the blood suckers that live their now that won't even pick up the trash right outside their windows.

Stamford did a fine job of it 25 years ago. With half the Welfare roster gone I bet my taxes would get halved as well. My property would be worth more, the schools would excel again and the cops wouldn't be spread so thin.

I'm exhausted from paying their rent, heat, food, medical and public transportaion(yes they get bus and taxi tokens) and they won't even clean their very own sidewalk. It's what spoiled children do and it's time to grow up.

Tarisita:

WELL SAID!! I'm with you.

admo:

Here we go again.Sell your homes people, between the crime and Schools being decimated our homes will be worth nothing! Time for new leadership!!!

NRWKParent:

Nope Mr. Mayor and Mr. Chief there are no problems here, Keep cutting school and police money too. That will solve the non problem itself.

Tim T:

Can you say RECALL ELECTION??

Tim T:

This will start yet another round of violence in Norwalk. Let us not forget the last round of shootings , killings, stabbings and riots only a short month ago. Also let use not forget that the NPD solved ZERO of these. It is clear that the criminal elements have ZERO fear of the NPD as they know that they will not be caught. This is the reason that we need a chief from outside the old boys club of the NPD that will clean house from the top down and a good house cleaning it needs.

lwitherspoon:

What you say about the Norwalk PD not solving any of the recent round of shootings is not correct. The shooting in SoNo that grew out of a quarrel was solved by the Norwalk PD within several hours of the crime, according to published reports. A short while later the shooter was apprehended in NYC by the US Marshals who worked with the Norwalk PD, which is standard protocol since the Norwalk PD don't have the authority to arrest criminals in NYC.

Tim T:

PAID STOOGE YOU ARE WRONG ONCE AGAIN...It was the US Marshals that did the work and caught the criminal and not the NPD. This just further reinforces the point that criminals can be caught by profession law enforcement, which the NPD is not.
So as I said the NPD caught ZERO of the last round of shootings, stabbings , killings, and riots.
WE NEED CHANGE AT THE NPD FROM OUTSIDE THE OLD BOYS CLUB FROM THE TOP DOWN.
If Moccia the Moron refuses to do this we need a RECALL election of Moccia,.
Also how much did you get for this post
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

lwitherspoon:

The factual information in my comment came from published reports. Are you saying that the Hour and the Daily Voice were both wrong? Have you informed both publications of this and provided them with your inside information, so they can verify it and print a correction?

Tim T:

No what I am saying is that once again you are making things up to fit your agenda. The US Marshals and NOT the NPD are the ones that caught the criminal you are referring too. It seem that you are of the mind set that if you say it and fabricate a source that it will become true. I and most on this site see you for what you are.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

M. Murray:

Don't waste your time. Some individuals do not care about facts and are only interested in spouting off about things in which they have no knowledge or experience. US Marshals will not get involved in a local case unless requested or information pops up on an existing task force wiretap. US Marshals did not initiate a search for anyone in NYC but responded to a request for assistance. If you speak to officers in Bridgeport, Stamford, Hartford, or New Haven, you will find similar experiences and sol ability in homicide investigations. Gang related homicides are rarely solved because witnesses and victims refuse to cooperate. It is the norm these days in cities. Some people on these sites do not seem to accept the fact that times have changed and Norwalk is no longer a quiet seaport community.

rwellen:

I wish people were less accepting of us having similar crime experiences to Bridgeport, Stamford, Hartford or New Haven . Those are not laudable goals. We are 33% larger than Greenwich. Probably not practical to think we will achieve their crime rates or educational scores, but let's at least aspire in a positive direction.
