Caro was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a building at the intersection of Ely Avenue and Mulvoy Street, police said.

Officers were called to the scene at 12:27 a.m. and rendered aid to Caro, who had suffered serious injuries in the accident. He was transported to Norwalk Hospital, where he died.

The accident remained under investigation Monday, police said, and an autopsy will be performed by the office of the chief medical examiner.

Witnesses said Caro was traveling east on Ely Avenue when he came to the three-way stop sign, and that he drove through the stop sign at a high rate of speed, according to police reports. The motorcycle hit a curb and became airborne before slamming into the building, police said.

Caro was wearing a helmet at the time, police said. The Kawasaki ZX 1000 motorcycle he was riding was registered to someone else, but police said Caro had a valid motorcycle license.
