Police said that the victim has been identified as 33-year-old Melissa Wilkinson, while the suspect has been identified as her father, 55-year-old Mark Wilkinson. Both were residents of the apartment at 66 Wilton Ave.

Police responded to the apartment at around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Co-workers of Melissa Wilkinson had gone to the home after she had not shown up for work, police said. When they arrived, they saw her lying on the floor through the window, and kicked in a door to discover that she was dead, according to police.
They saw Mark Wilkinson sitting in the apartment and fled to call police. When officers arrived, they tried to communicate with him, but he refused, according to police.
The Norwalk Emergency Services Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiators arrived, while the residences that surround 66 Wilton Ave. were evacuated, police said. The Norwalk Fire Department assisted to get evacuees to an offsite location.
Tactical officers made attempts to communicate with Mark Wilkinson, but he refused to speak with them, according to police.
During the standoff, officers heard a single gunshot, police said. They used a camera to look at the interior of the apartment, and saw that Mark Wilkinson was dead. They entered and confirmed that there were two dead people inside, later identified as Mark Wilkinson and his daughter Melissa, police said.
Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit remained on scene Monday morning, and are continuing to investigate the incident.
