NORWALK, Conn. – A 41-year-old Norwalk man, who police said had been inhaling compressed air from a canister, was arrested on burglary and other charges Saturday after he broke into a Kettle Road home, police said.

Clayton Gandini, of Fillow Street, was charged with criminal impersonation, third-degree burglary and criminal attempt to commit burglary at about 2:50 p.m. after the homeowner detained Gandini until officers arrived, police said.

According to Sgt. Thomas Roncinske, Gandini was first seen wandering around houses on nearby Spring Hill Avenue. Residents in the area described him to police as a white male, wearing a baseball hat, jeans, a gray T-shirt and flip-flops, and he was seen driving a black Subaru Impreza.

A short while later, Gandini broke into the Kettle Road home through a rear sliding door, police said. When the homeowner asked him who he was and what he was doing in the house, Gandini told him he was an FBI agent with NCIS and that he was on a case, police said.

Roncinske said officers found cans of compressed air in Gandini’s possession, which Gandini said he had been “huffing,” a slang term for inhaling the contents to get high.

Gandini was held on $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on May 29.
