Police received a report of an armed robbery at Tom's Deli on Connecticut Avenue at 10:56 a.m. A description of the suspect was immediately broadcast to responding officers, and moments later Officer Gabe DeMott spotted the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Bobby Rock of Stamford, running in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Van Buren Avenue, according to police.

DeMott ordered Rock to stop, however he fled toward West Avenue, police said. DeMott pursued him, and was soon joined by Sgt. Garrett Kruger and Police Service Dog Kimbo.

Rock slowed down and reached towards his waistband, police said. At that time, Kimbo was deployed and took him to the ground. Rock was then placed under arrest.

The Detective Bureau assumed the investigated and determined that during the robbery, Rock had held a phone wrapped in a towel and purported it to be a firearm, police said.

Rock was charged with first-degree robbery, interfering with an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $100,000 bond and given a court date of July 5.
