On Tuesday night, Nov. 3, a Westport officer on routine patrol on South Compo Road saw a vehicle parked partially in the road with its lights off, police said.
The officer approached the vehicle and found two people inside, police said. While speaking with the vehicle's occupants, the officer suspected that there may be narcotics in the vehicle and requested a police service dog, police said.
A Norwalk police officer and his police service dog went to the scene, police said. The police service dog gave a positive indication for the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, police said. A search of the vehicle revealed one heroin packet and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Additionally, in a search linked to her arrest, officers found two fake $20 bills, police said. The fake bills appeared to have been photocopied and then cut to size, making them appear to be real, police said.
Briana Pennell, 32, of Westport was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance and third-degree forgery, police said.
Pennell was unable to post $1,000 bond and was issued a Nov.16 date at Norwalk court, police said.
