Norwalk Police Chief Expected to Step Down

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk Police Chief Harry Rilling appears to be leaving Norwalk before his expected retirement in December.

Rilling has announced a press conference for Thursday morning to discuss his future. A lifelong Norwalker who has been chief for 17 years, Rilling has been seeking to lead another police department. At the press conference, he "will offer comment on his upcoming retirement," Lt. Paul Resnick said Wednesday afternoon.

Rilling said recently that he was entertaining offers from other towns, had one concrete offer and was waiting to see how two other potential opportunities would work out before making a decision about which one to accept.

Speculation at police headquarters is that Dep. Chief Thomas Kulhawik will step in to fill Rilling's shoes.
