NORWALK, Conn. — A loaded handgun tucked into the space where a radio used to be in an abandoned Honda and a shotgun were found as Norwalk officers swooped in and arrested two brothers in a drug raid Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Kevin Del Rosario, 23, and Brian Martinez, 27, of 379 Westport Ave., were arrested by Special Services officers who had had the residence under surveillance, police said. They made the arrests just after Delrosario sold marijuana to Anthony Rosado, 19, of 11 Three Seasons Court, police said. Rosado was issued a summons for possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana.
"There was a clear and present situation that had to be taken care of," said Lt. James Walsh, special services commander about the decision to make the arrests at that time.
Walsh said police had received a tip several months ago about marijuana sales. Officers began a surveillance of Delrosario and Martinez and made a number of controlled purchases of marijuana, he said.
Police saw drug sales occur in the parking lot of a gas station close to the brothers' residence as well as at the residence itself, Walsh said. An abandoned gray Honda Civic on the property was used as a place to stash marijuana, he said. Officers saw them go back to the "complete junk" Honda on several occasions to retrieve what they alleged was marijuana for sale, he said.
Officers found about one ounce of marijuana in the vehicle Tuesday afternoon, Walsh said.
Del Rosario is facing 21 drug and weapons charges and was held on $300,000 bond. Martinez is facing a pair of drug-related charges and was held on $50,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court for arraignment Wednesday.
Walsh said the handgun was stolen out of Marion, N.C., and police are investigating how it arrived in Norwalk. Police are still investigating where the 12-gauge camouflaged hunting shotgun came from, he said. Norwalk Police are working with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms on the case, he said.
Both guns were in good condition, he said.
