Extra patrols would take place through Wednesday, Jan. 1, according to the department's Facebook page. The patrols will specifically target DUI enforcement.
"Partly paid through a special grant program, officers will be conducting patrols during peak times looking for impaired drivers," a press release said. "Please do not drink and drive and have a safe New Year's holiday."
Connecticut State Police will also continue its 2013 holiday enforcement program known as Operation SANTA. The program, which stands for Stop Another Needless Tragic Accident, is an initiative to send an injury-prevention message during the holidays. Its focus is on driving behavior that most frequently causes accidents, and enforcement attempts to rid the roads and highways of drivers who drive under the influence, speed and fail to wear seat belts.
