Norwalk Police Accreditation Process To Begin Dec. 7

NORWALK, Conn. – The Norwalk Police Department announced the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will visit the department Dec. 7 to begin examination for accrediting the agency.

CALEA's assessment will include a look at the department's policies and procedures, management, operations and support services.

CALEA accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence, Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik said.

A public information session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 8 in the department's Community Room, 1 Monroe St. Both agency employees and community members are invited to provide comments.

Interested parties also can make comments by phone by calling 203-854-3056 from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 8.

All comments on the phone or at the meeting are limited to five minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards
