David Cordero, 28, Jose Martinez, 25, and William Padilla, 24, were all charged with second-degree threatening, conspiracy and second-degree breach of peace. They were held on $500 bonds and will appear in court Sept. 3.

Police responded to the area of Ely and Lexington avenues around 2:49 a.m., Sunday morning, on a report of an attempted robbery. When they arrived, they were flagged down by a man, who said the three had tried to rob him.

The 27-year-old complainant told police that he had been at a party at his cousin's house when the three men pulled up in a pickup truck. Thinking that they were party guests, the victim went out to greet them. He told police that one of them grabbed a chain from around the victim's neck and ripped it off, asking, "You think you're better than me?"

The man, who did not know the three men, first thought that they were joking. He said they then became more aggressive, saying, "Let's kill him." The victim took off running towards a wooded area, police said, and the three followed him.

Police said that they caught up to him, and he reported that one pulled out a gun and another pulled out a knife. They then told him that they were going to kill him, according to police reports.

The man was able to break free and continued to run away. He lost them, and then contacted police. When officers arrived, the man pointed out the truck that they were in and identified the three men as the three who had threatened him. They were then taken into custody. Police said that no weapons were found in the vehicle.
