The victim, whose identity was not released, is expected to survive what Sgt. Thomas Mattera called an “inter-cranial intrusion to the skull.”

“Surgery was performed and the bullet was removed,” said Mattera, the department’s new commander of the Detective Bureau. “At this time, we don’t believe it was self-inflicted.”

The man was transported to the hospital by unnamed friends at about 2 a.m.

Mattera said detectives have spoken to the victim in “limited interview” due to his injuries. “We’re following up on several leads.”

Where the shooting occurred has not been released, but a car that is believed to have been involved was found on Auburn Street, Mattera said.

However, the department did not receive a report of shots fired from that area.
