STAMFORD, Conn. – A Norwalk man was sentenced to 54 months in prison Tuesday for embezzling more than $3.4 million from a Stamford company, Acting U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Deirdre M. Daly said in a press release.
Thomas Turey, 64, of Norwalk worked for Stamford market research firm Rothstein-Tauber Inc. as its controller. From August 2005 to January 2013, he used his position to take $3,462,435 from the company by writing checks to himself and a “fictitious entity,” according to the press release.
Turey pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud May 23. On Tuesday, United States District Judge Janet C. Hall sentenced him to 54 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He also must pay the full amount of money stolen back to his former employer as restitution.
