STAMFORD, Conn. -- Two checks written from a dying Stamford woman's account were cashed right after her death, leading police to arrest a Norwalk handyman who was doing odd jobs for her, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Stamford Police had received a complaint from the family of an elderly Stamford woman that two checks totaling $2,850 were written right before her death at the end of 2016, according to the Stamford Advocate. Police told the Stamford Advocate that the checks were written to 60-year-old Ralph Esposito of Norwalk, who deposited them into his girlfriend's account. They were credited right after the elderly woman died, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Esposito is believed to have discovered the woman's checkbook while doing some odd jobs for her, and written the two checks, according to the Stamford Advocate. He was arrested and charged with second-degree larceny and held on a $25,000 bond, according to the Stamford Advocate.
