Dustin Wymss, 21, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He was also charged with two counts of violation of probation dating to 2013. He was held on a combined bond of $60,000 and will appear in court Sept. 3.

The charges stemmed from an incident that took place at Home Depot on Feb. 4. Police said Wymss entered the store, took two cans of paint valued at $180 each and took them to the checkout area and said he wanted to return them. Because he didn't have a receipt, an employee asked for his driver's license, which he handed over, police said. He was then given a gift card in exchange for the paint cans.

But a loss prevention officer noticed the transaction and approached Wymss, police said. When the officer tried to get Wymss to come with him, Wymss began yelling, pushed the officer and headbutted him, according to police. The officer sustained an injury to his lip, and Wymss took off, police said.

When officers arrived Wymss was gone, but the store was able to provide surveillance footage, police said.

Officers also determined that Wymss had handed over his real driver's license when asked by employees, and were able to positively identify him, according to police reports. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he turned himself in on Aug. 25.
