NORWALK, Conn. – A 42-year-old Norwalk man was arrested on charges related to a detached garage fire Wednesday on Woodward Avenue that sent another man to Norwalk Hospital with serious but not life-threatening burns.

Ruben Davila was charged by Norwalk police with first-degree assault and first-degree arson, both felonies, and was held on $750,000 bond. Davila has no known address in Norwalk except for the Open Door Shelter on Merritt Street, where he was arrested Wednesday morning, police said.

According to police, Davila and other men, including the victim, were living out of the detached garage on Woodward Avenue. Davila and the victim got into an argument Wednesday morning when Davila threw a flammable liquid at the victim and lit him on fire, which led to the garage fire, police said.

Norwalk firefighters doused the blaze in about 20 minutes.

Davila was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment Thursday.
