NORWALK, Conn. – A Norwalk man was arrested Wednesday on warrants  charging him with beating his former girlfriend, police said.

Andre Bjorntzen, 30, of St. John Street, allegedly beat his 23-year-old girlfriend in August and December of 2012, police said.

In the August attack, he allegedly choked and punched the woman and tried to lock her in a closet, police said. But she got away, ran down the street with Bjorntzen chasing her and had to be rescued by neighbors, according to the police report.

The December incident occurred while Bjorntzen was driving on George Street, police said. The woman tried to get out of the car, but Bjorntzen allegedly beat her and held her back, according to the police report.

Whether the woman suffered injuries in the first attack was not disclosed, but she suffered a small cut over her right eye in the second attack, police said. She refused medical treatment.

Bjorntzen was charged with several felonies, including kidnapping, criminal violation of a protective order, assault, unlawful restraint and strangulation. He was held in lieu of a $40,000 bond and scheduled to appear Thursday in Norwalk Superior Court.
