Daniel Lewis, 28, was charged with two counts of third-degree identity theft, third-degree burglary, four counts of conspiracy, credit card theft, illegal use of credit card, and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a combined bond of $55,000 and will appear in court on June 22.
Westport police received a report on Jan. 12 from a woman who said that her purse was stolen out of her car. The purse contained credit cards that were used at various locations, police said. An investigation identified Lewis as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to police.
On Feb. 19 they received a report from a man who said his unlocked car had been entered and the interior contents rummaged through. An investigation determined that Lewis was a suspect in this case as well, and another warrant was issued for his arrest.
On May 5, Westport police were contacted by a neighboring police department concerning vehicles that were broken into and stolen credit cards being used in Westport. Police said a suspect was developed and identified Lewis as a conspirator to the burglaries and credit card thefts. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Lewis turned himself in to police on Friday.
