A Connecticut State Police officer stopped to check on a car parked on the side of Interstate 95 near Exit 14 on the afternoon of Nov. 23. Dustin Wymss, 19, of Union Avenue was seen putting copper wire in the back seat of the car, according to the state trooper’s report. Another man was carrying wire from a wooded area nearby, police said.
A K-9 unit track led police from the two men to the CL&P substation off Flax Hill Road. Two large wooden spools were also found in the woods along the K-9 unit’s path, according to the police report. A CL&P employee later found a 4-foot-tall hole cut in the substation’s fence. An electric saw and wire cutters were also found inside the suspects’ car, police said.
The two men were arrested at the time but were released while police continued the investigation. Wymss was seen walking on Wall Street early Thursday and arrested on a warrant without incident, police said.
Wymss was charged with third-degree larceny, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, conspiracy and possession of burglar’s tools. He was held on $5,000 bond, and is due in court on Feb. 10. Another arrest is pending in the case, police said.
