Harold Gogarty, 45, was charged with third-degree robbery, risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor and sixth-degree larceny. He was held on a $5,000 bond. He also was served arrest warrants for failure to appear in court in 2011 and 2014.

The arrest stems from an incident on Feb. 1. Loss prevention officers at the Walmart on Connecticut Avenue told police two people had come into the store, put BB guns underneath their sweatshirts and walked out. Employees followed the two outside and confronted them. They told police one of two pushed and threatened an employee.

Police responded and the matter was handed over to the detective bureau. They were able to view surveillance footage and identified one of the suspects as Gogarty and the other as his 16-year-old son. Police said Gogarty had brought his son with him and instructed him on how to steal the BB guns. A warrant was issued for Gogarty's arrest and he turned himself in Wednesday.
