Marquise Marrow, 21, was charged with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal trespass. He was held on a $60,000 bond and will appear in court Sept. 11. Another suspect in the case, Isaiah Willoughby, 28, was previously charged on Aug. 16 with second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, and evading responsibility.
On March 9 police received a complaint from a resident of Donna Drive, who said her Nissan Altima had been stolen from her home. On March 17, the car was involved in a hit and run accident on Stuart Avenue. Police said three people were seen fleeing from the car after the crash. The car was recovered by police and processed for evidence.
Police said that investigators were able to lift prints from the vehicle. One set of prints matched to Marrow, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Tuesday night members of the Special Services street team were out on patrol when they saw Marrow on Raymond Street with a large group of people. Knowing that there was a warrant out for his arrest, the officers approached him. Police said he made eye contact with the officers, then turned and fled in Ryan Park. A foot chase ensued, and Marrow crossed Day Street into Washington Village, where he was tackled by officers and placed in handcuffs.
While taking Marrow into custody, officers also spotted Tyquan Welfare, 21, of Norwalk in Ryan Park. The officers knew that there was a warrant out for Welfare for failure to pay for an infraction, according to police reports.
The officers approached Welfare and informed him that there was a warrant out for his arrest. Police said that Welfare became rigid and did not comply with officers' requests to put his hands behind his back. He was taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs.
While officers searched Welfare, they found a bulge in his waistband which contained a bag of marijuana. He was arrested and charged with failure to pay an infraction, interfering with an officer and possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana. He was held on a $10,000 bond and will appear in court Sept. 11.
