Officers had information that a man in a BMW would be in the area of Level 2 South of the parking garage to conduct a drug transaction, police said.

After he was stopped by officers at about 6 p.m., Wilbar Serrano, 25, jumped out of the car and tried to flee, police said. Serrano went only a few steps before he was grabbed by an officer, police said.

He turned and punched the officer in an attempt to flee but was knocked down by the officer and other officers, police said.

The officer who was struck suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police said they discovered slightly more than 1 pound of marijuana packed in bags in the vehicle. Serrano agreed to a search of his residence at 40 Hyatt Ave., Apt. A, Norwalk, where officers discovered drug paraphernalia and another 5 ounces of marijuana, police said.

Serrano was charged with interfering with a police officer, assault on a police officer, possession of marijuana, sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
