Aaron Everhart, 24, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and following too close. He was held on $7,000 bond and will appear in court June 12.

The arrest stemmed from a car accident at the intersection of East Avenue and Westport Avenue at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday. Police said Everhart was traveling west on Westport Avenue when he struck another car in the rear, knocking that car into a third car.

After hitting the car, Everhart got out of his car, went up to the other driver and began punching him in the face, according to police reports. Everhart did not exchange words with the other driver, a 47 year-old man, before he began assaulting him, according to police.

An ambulance was called to evaluate the other driver, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries to his face, police said. Everhart was taken into custoody, police said.
