Jeffrey Sweeney was charged with second-degree threatening, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and interfering with an officer. He was held on $100,000 bond and appeared in court Wednesday.
Police received a call from Sweeney's 82-year-old mother, saying Sweeney had become enraged at his family. She told officers he had two guns and that he believed his family members were against him and wanted him committed, police said. She said he had gone out to the yard and fired off one gun several months ago, according to police.
After Sweeney became angry, he started breaking things in the Noah's Lane home, police said. His mother left the home and contacted police from Grumman Avenue.
Officers responded to the Noah's Lane home where Sweeney was located, police said. They tried calling him to get him to come out, but he refused, according to police.
A hostage negotiator was called, but Sweeney still wouldn't comply, saying he wanted to speak to his lawyer, police said. Officers could see him inside the home and saw him turn off lights and close the blinds, according to police reports.
Sweeney made contact with his lawyer and then came outside, police said. He was taken into custody.
Officers entered the home and found damage to the interior, including broken floor tiles and shards of broken glass around the house, according to police reports. No firearms were located inside the home, police said.
