John Woods, 44, of Norwalk, was charged with first-degree criminal trespass. HIs bond was set at $15,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court Friday.
The couple had broken up, and Wood had moved out, police said.
But the woman received a phone call from her home telephone number, which caused her alarm, police said.
She contacted police and officers responded to her residence. When officers arrived, they received no answer when they knocked on the door, police said.
Officers were able to see inside the home and discovered that it was in disarray and that a window was open, police said.
They entered the residence and shouted out warnings for anyone to come out, but there was no answer, police said.
When officers checked the bedroom, they discovered it was locked and yelled at the person to come out, police said.
When officers could hear what they believed to be footsteps and a window opening, they forced the door open and found the suspect standing in the middle of the room, police said.
