Norwalk Firefighters Receiving Training About Autism

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk firefighters are receiving training to aid those with autism spectrum disorders and autism.

The training – supported by a federal grant – is taught by first responders with first hand knowledge of the disorder.

The insight of the instructors both personally and professionally aims at helping the department’s approach in caring for children and adults afflicted with autism spectrum disorders or autism.

Autism spectrum disorder and autism describe a group of complex disorders of brain development characterized, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors.
